US voters are sick of the sanctimonious midwits who refused to learn from the 2016 election
In both the United States and Britain, every Left-of-centre pundit, activist and social media militant is saying the exact same thing. Donald Trump’s victory, they shriek, is a catastrophe not just for the US but the entire world.
Trump will hand Ukraine to Putin. He will irreparably sabotage the fight against climate change. And he will ban vaccines, abortions, elections, and, who knows, ice cream and kittens.
Fine. Let’s say, purely for the sake of argument, that on this one occasion, these people actually happen to be right.
In which case, when are they going to apologise? Because without insufferable sanctimonious imbeciles like them, Trump could never have won.
This is a lesson they should have learnt the first time he won, in 2016. But we know they didn’t. Because, ever since Trump was temporarily ousted in 2020, progressives have grown ever more fanatical in their efforts to enforce ideologies that are so repellent, millions of US voters would rather their country be led by a convicted felon.
Somewhat belatedly, therefore, it’s time for smug middle-class midwits to look at themselves in the mirror, and consider the following possibilities.
First: quite a large number of normal, law-abiding and generally apolitical citizens actually think that illegal immigration is a bad thing. And excessive legal immigration, too. They do not agree that they should be forced to pay “reparations” for crimes they didn’t commit. And they don’t think that daring to say any of this necessarily qualifies them for automatic life membership of the KKK.
Second: they have not been wholly overjoyed to see that, less than 25 years after 9/11, American college campuses are now routinely overrun by apologists for Islamist terror groups. The average US citizen does not, on the whole, wish to “globalise the intifada”. Nor does he or she yearn for “jihad”. They remember the times when “jihad” has been attempted on American soil. And, all things considered, they didn’t much like it.
Third: they are not typically impressed by the modern mania for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. They find it, at best, patronising – and, at worst, an authoritarian assault on both free speech and meritocracy.
Oh, and fourth: they don’t think it’s quite right that men should use women’s changing rooms. They think it’s unfair and often dangerous for men to compete in women’s sporting events. They’re not convinced that, from the moment children start school, they should be encouraged to believe that they’ve been “born in the wrong body”, and that the sole way to solve this plight is to embark on a lifelong course of dubious drugs and have perfectly healthy parts of their body hacked off by a surgeon. And, for the life of them, they cannot see why children urgently need to be read stories by drag queens.
All the above is, of course, perfectly obvious to most of us. But, for some reason, many educated progressives remain strangely oblivious to it. So, this feels like a reasonable opportunity to explain it to them, just one more time.
At any rate, it will be interesting to see how the Left ultimately responds to this thunderous rejection of the values they’ve tried to impose on everyone else. They have two options.
One: accept that they have no right to wail about Trump’s win, because it’s all their own fault.
Or two: continue wallowing in the biggest social media meltdown since Elon Musk bought Twitter, and decide that the only reason their side lost is that American voters are evil, bigoted, transphobic racists
I wonder which option they’ll choose.
